'...he inspired the children to love writing...'
‘Jack came to visit the children in our school in September and I thought you might like to know how we have been using his talk to influence our writing. We used the ideas and the workshop that Jack provided to create a whole school writing project. All children in the school used the idea of a mutant animal to create a story using the story house. We made our own books and 'published' them on the walls of our school and on our literacy display. We thought Jack might like to know how much he inspired the children to love writing - so a big thank you from me as Literacy Co-ordinator. Please feel free to browse the page on our school's website which demonstrates this (click to view whole-school 'mutants' writing project). Kind regards,'

'...fantastic, inspirational visit...'
‘Hi Jack, A very big THANK YOU from the Staff, Dorothy Buck and the pupils of Elmwood Junior School for a fantastic, inspirational visit to our school on Monday, 18th January 2016. The Assembly talk and the workshops were very well received by all. The pupils especially enjoyed the strange animals that you created. On a personal note, my granddaughter read your Kernowland series book, The Crystal Pool, in 2 days! A first for her! She said that it was a fantastic book and found it hard to put it down. All the best and thank you once again.'

'INSPIRING AUTHOR JACK TRELAWNY FUELS ENTHUSIASM FOR WRITING'
'The children in Key Stage 2 were fortunate enough to have author Jack Trelawny come and inspire them with fresh new ideas for writing. Mr Trelawny captivated the children's attention with sharp, exciting and well thought out strategies to apply when writing stories. His interactive and interesting visual prompts and his use of extraordinary animal mutants left the children eager to start writing. Mr Trelawny proved a huge success with staff and children sparking new enthusiasm for writing!'

'Enthralling children's author opens new school library'
'A children’s author and “edutainer” visited a junior school this week to give an illustrated talk and open a brand new library. Mr Trelawny talked to the school pupils about his work and helped award prizes for winning entries in a writing competition, with each child winning a copy of one of his books. At the end of the afternoon, staff and pupils were joined by parents as the author officially opened the new school library. English teacher Marion Tunstall said: “Jack kept the children enthralled as he talked to them about how he thinks of ideas for his new books. “A series of entertaining slides accompanied his talk, many of them causing much hilarity amongst the children as they saw strange mutant creatures – characters in Jack’s books - on the screen.” She added: “The school are looking forward to using [the library] fully in the new school year where it will be open after school for parents to come in and help their child to choose a book.” '

'Hi Jane, I just wanted to send you a quick email to say how fantastic our visit from Jack was today! The children did not stop talking about it for the whole day and were truly inspired to begin writing their own stories! Most of them straight away began thinking of their own crazy animals to feature in their book and said that Jack must have the best job in the world, to be able to write stories all day long. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for sending Jack to our school, awakening our children's imaginations and inspiring them to write. Many thanks,'

'Dear Campion Books, Just a courtesy email to say how much we enjoyed the visit from Jack Trelawny yesterday. His assembly/presentation was interesting and thought provoking. The children were very attentive and gained a lot from his input. At the book signing afterwards, I was really impressed by how friendly and professional he was with all the children who stayed behind. I would certainly be happy to recommend him to other schools. I just wish that he could have stayed longer! Best wishes,

'The children were spellbound'
'Thank you very much for your visit to the school. The children were spellbound by all that you said and showed them. They've spoken about it every day since then. Following on from one of your suggestions, for homework they drew pictures of their own imaginary creatures. My class have now taken this one step further and begun to write their own stories based around the lives of their creatures. Please find enclosed some thank you letters from the children in my class. The morning was a great success and thank you once again for coming into the school and inspiring the children to read and write their own stories. The children are eager for the 4th book to be published.'

‘Just a quick email to say how wonderful our session with Jack was on 10th Nov!! The children have been so excited ever since - the year six boys haven't taken their noses out of the books yet! Jack was so motivational, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session and are really keen to try out some of Jack's ideas in their own writing. The staff were thrilled too. We are really keen to have him back to work with our children again and would recommend him without reservation to any school you would like to refer to us.

'Just a HUGE thank you for your time, trouble and effort for our event at Lothingland Middle School on October 9th. The teachers and pupils alike really enjoyed the interesting talk you gave and we have had some very positive feedback from all involved. The teachers really liked the points you made about having to check and draft your work as it is something they struggle to get the children to do, and the children loved the break from the normal school routine to do something different!'

'Helps our literacy classes'
'Some of our pupils are currently reading the books in class and it was fascinating to hear about them from the author. Not only does this help our literacy classes, we are also doing a topic called 'sharing our world' which looks at Cornwall and how it relates to the rest of the world. Bringing mystery and fantasy into the picture really helps to bring the topic alive.'

PRESS RELEASE: Great St. Mary’s Church - Spellbrook Primary School
'On Wednesday 3 October, Emerald and Diamond classes at Spellbrook Primary School were lucky enough to have a visit from the noted children’s author Jack Trelawny. He came to inspire the children about his Kernowland stories and share his ideas about how he started writing about the characters and settings. The staff at Spellbrook have been impressed by how many of the children have developed a passion for reading since Jack’s last visit 2 years ago and hope as a result of his visit today the love of reading will continue throughout the school long into the future. Deputy Headteacher Mrs Gill Vise explained the visit as being part of the church school’s mission to enrich and extend the curriculum. Certainly the benefits can be seen in the writing the children are currently producing.'

'Jack's books are constantly being taken out of the library'
'The children were really entertained by Jack’s presentation, and particularly enjoyed all the pictures of the strange creatures, such as the dogspider. Months after the event, they still remember what they learned from the lively question and answer session. Jack’s books are constantly being taken out of the library and children are already looking forward eagerly to the next instalment of the adventures in Kernowland. It was a real success – and the teachers very much appreciated how smoothly it went.'

Feedback from a teacher of dyslexic children:
'Dear Mr Trelawny, I wrote to you with my comments after having read The Crystal Pool. Now that I have finished Darkness Day, I felt I should write again and congratulate you... There are so many things about your books that strike me as reader-friendly, from the size and shape, accessible style, short chapters with relevant headings, choice of vocabulary, plenty of action, humour, things to make the reader think ... I could go on, but won't. Suffice to say that I think they are excellent.'
